POLICE STATIONS

Everyone who is arrested and detained at a police station is entitled to free legal advice and assistance. Being arrested, detained, and questioned by the police is one of the most terrifying situations a client can have.

We give advice and attendance at the police station 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as part of our service. We provide this service as a duty solicitor and for clients who are familiar with our firm.

We try to be present at all police station interviews to provide ongoing legal advice and to assist in the police station if a client is released on bail.

Our legal representatives can be with you at local police stations within 45 minutes, including evenings and weekends, due to the location of our solicitors and highly experienced accredited police station personnel.

CRIMINAL LAW

Criminal law is the principal means by which the government identifies and criminalises behaviour that is considered wrong, damaging to individuals or to society as a whole or is otherwise unacceptable. The criminal justice system is the mechanism by which action is taken to deal with those suspected of committing offences. The criminal justice system refers to the whole process from the initial investigation of a crime through to acquittal or to conviction and sentence in the criminal courts.

CORONERS INQUESTS

At Levy & Co Solicitors LLP we have experience in dealing with Her Majesty’s Coroner Inquests into the death of a person.

We understand how difficult it can be for someone to provide their evidence in open court to the Coroner and others who may attend.

We will be able to assist in preparing you before and representing you throughout the inquest, including making representations to the Coroner if applicable.

If you are a member of a union it may be that they will support the funding of your representation, although Legal Aid is available in limited circumstances. If you are eligible for Legal Aid our service will be free of charge and we offer competitive private rates if you are not.

We offer a free consultation to advise on your case.

PRIVATE AND PUBLIC FUNDING

Fixed Fees

There are certain cases whereby legal aid will not be available. For example, most road traffic law cases do not meet the merits to be able to obtain legal aid, even if a client is on benefits or a very low income.

We aim to discuss such cases with our clients to explain why legal aid will not be granted and assist them through the court rules and procedures. In these types of cases private funding can be arranged. Under some circumstances, we will liaise with insurance companies for funding, in a bid to release some pressure from clients

We are able to offer fixed fees for certain cases. To find out more, please contact us on 01376 511819 or use our online enquiry form.

Legal Aid

We always offer a free initial consultation to in which we discuss legal aid.

ALL our clients have the opportunity to discuss the merits of their particular case. We aim to secure legal aid to all clients who meet the criteria set by the Legal Aid Agency (LAA). This means that our services are free of charge.

All our clients are entitled to legal aid when they are:
1. At the police station
2. Appear at the Crown Court
3. Are under the age of 18
4. On a low income (under £22,325) and appear at the magistrates’ court and their case merits legal aid
5. Receive certain benefits (eg Jobs seekers allowance) and their case merits legal aid

Clients will NOT receive Legal Aid when:
1. They appear at the magistrates court for most road traffic cases
2. If they form part of a partnership, have their own business or earn in excess of £22,325
